  Personal Recycling

Reduce, reuse, recycle. You've all heard this mantra and there's a reason the efforts are listed in that order. You do your best to reduce your printing of emails, you use both sides of your office paper, and you try to receive less junk mail. Then you stuff whatever is leff into your recycling bin, and hope for the best (especially here in Chicago, where we're not quite sure where things really go). But what happened to the second priority? Reusing materials as much as possible before they enter the recycling stream is more than just responsible, it can be artistic and well, awesome.

So, how can Tweedle Press help you? When you send your junk mail, used office paper, crumpled gift wrap, and paper packaging off to a commercial recycler, a lot of energy and water are used sometimes along with bleach and other chemicals to make it usable again.
If you instead send your materials to Tweedle Press, I will personally make something beautiful (without the use of any nasty stuff) for you to use again. It's true that I use a small amount of electricity for my blender and one big bucket of water, but everything beyond that is entirely human-powered.

What can I send to Tweedle Press for Personal Recycling?
Junk mail*, old gift wrap, envelopes, used office paper, used scratch paper, cards, and paper packaging (instruction booklets, assembly instructions, etc.). *It is extremely important that you do not send me anything with personally identifiable information on it. Read on...

What should I never send to Tweedle Press for Personal Recycling?
Never, ever send things like bank or credit card statements, receipts, credit card offers, or anything that if intercepted by an evil person could be used against you. I am definitely not a confidential document disposal service, and these types of things you should be shredding yourself before recycling. Also, I can't use cardboard, newspapers, or magazines.

How are my materials prepared for Personal Recycling?
As soon as I receive your materials, I sort out any items I can't use and recycle those if possible. The rest gets shredded and turned into the delicious items of your choice! If you have chosen particular tints or other aspects for your paper that can't be acheived solely from what you've supplied me with, those will be added from my own collected paper materials.

Can I add things other than paper to my Personal Recycling project?
There are some types of other items that will work in limited amounts as accents to your Personally Recycled Paper. The best way to find out what may or may not work with your project is to get in touch with me. I love to try out new things and would be curious to hear your ideas, no matter how wacky. I can sprinkle in bits of a beloved (but no longer wearable) t-shirt, chunks of old love letters, confetti, threads, dried flowers, crayon shavings, photos, pine needles...I'll let you know before we begin how the things you'd like in your paper will potentially affect usability.

How much stuff do I send you for my project?
I've worked out approximate weights based on the amount of Personal Recycling that you're requesting, and you'll find these on the individual product ordering pages. I use my own collected stuff to supplement orders that are short, and keep your extra for other future projects. Don't worry, I'll contact you with precise instructions before we begin your project,

How do I know what the finished product will look like?
In the case of the paper, you don't! Isn't that exciting? It's kind of like mailing off cereal box tops for a secret prize. Of course you can choose the various components you'd like, but how it turns out is somewhat dependant on what you send me.This would be why the tint color choices are all "ish." In the case of letterpress printing, I'll send you a proof to sign off on before your item is personalized.

Does Personal Recycling make a good gift?
Absolutely! If you send me your materials I can, for example, turn it into personalized stationery as a gift for someone. Gift wrap options are available, and I can even include a label on the packaging that describes exactly how their gift was made. Or, you can always purchase a Tweedle Press gift certificate that someone could use for their own Personal Recycling.
